Health Care

Currently, Texas ranks dead last in the percentage of adults and children with health insurance.

This is unacceptable. Chris supports responsibly expanding the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in order to decrease the number of uninsured children in our state. During the past Legislative Session, Chris co-authored a measure that would expand CHIP eligibility to include children whose family incomes are between 101 to 300% the Federal Poverty Level.

State Rep. Chris Turner Reminds Parents of New Immunization Requirements

Changes in Immunization Requirements Took Effect August 1, 2009

AUSTIN -State Representative Chris Turner is reminding parents that changes have been made to the state’s immunization requirements for school-aged children. The changes, which were ordered by the Health and Human Services Commission, went into effect on August 1, 2009 and a total of five new vaccine requirements have been added.

Rep.-elect Turner hopes to work across party lines on key issues

ARLINGTON — Chris Turner won’t be sworn in as a state representative until January, but his meeting calendar is already filling up with area community leaders and residents seeking to bend his ear on issues important to them.

Just about a year ago, Turner, a Democrat, decided to run for his first public office. He set his sights on the Texas House and campaigned on issues such as improving regional transportation and increasing funding for schools, teachers’ pay and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Protect the health of our most precious asset — our kids

As matter of principle and plain-old common sense, Chris Turner will fight to restore the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Texas. Because of the short-sighted and mean-spirited actions of the Legislature, Texas has 150,000 fewer kids insured by CHIP today than 5 years ago. This is a disgrace for the state that has the highest percentage of uninsured children in the nation. Texas has also lost nearly $1 billion in federal CHIP funds — our tax money that has instead been sent to New York, California and other states.
