State Representative Chris Turner Votes for New Public School Finance Plan

School Districts in House District 96 will Benefit from Measure

AUSTIN – Today, State Rep. Chris Turner voted for HB 3646, which will direct an additional $1.9 billion to Texas public schools over the next two years. The finance plan will increase funding for every school district in the state and increase teacher pay by at least $800 annually.

Rep.-elect Turner hopes to work across party lines on key issues

ARLINGTON — Chris Turner won’t be sworn in as a state representative until January, but his meeting calendar is already filling up with area community leaders and residents seeking to bend his ear on issues important to them.

Just about a year ago, Turner, a Democrat, decided to run for his first public office. He set his sights on the Texas House and campaigned on issues such as improving regional transportation and increasing funding for schools, teachers’ pay and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Make Public Education a Priority

Politicians in Austin talk a lot about education, but they have repeatedly failed students, parents and teachers. Texas ranks last in the country in the percentage of population over the age of 25 with a high school diploma and 47th in SAT scores, while our dedicated public school teachers are paid well below the national average. Chris Turner will fight to change that and make public education a top priority for Texas.
