Texas House District 93
The new Texas House District 93, as drawn by a federal court in November 2011, is a strongly Democratic open seat. Nearly half of the district was previously represented by Chris Turner in the Texas House: 45 percent of registered voters and 48 percent of the Democratic primary voters live in the South Arlington neighborhoods that were previously in District 96, represented by Turner from 2009-2011.
The district encompasses much of south and east Arlington and the Tarrant County portion of Grand Prairie. A significant portion of Mansfield ISD is also in the district.
The district is ethnically diverse – of the voting age population (VAP), the district is 32% Anglo, 29% African American, 29% Hispanic, and 10% Asian and other ethnicities.
District 93 is a Democratic stronghold – in 2008, President Obama received 62% of the vote here.
