On Thursday, more than 150 friends and supporters joined my family and me in Arlington to kickoff my 2014 re-election campaign. I was honored that Senator Leticia Van de Putte traveled from San Antonio to help kick off our campaign, and it was great to see such a cross-section of our district in attendance – teachers, veterans, small business owners, community leaders and others. Visit my Facebook page to check out some pictures from the event.
I cannot express how humbled I am to have such an incredible base of support – gained through hard work, dedication and a deep respect for the community and the people I was elected to represent.
Today, I made my campaign official by filing the paperwork required to be placed on the ballot for the March 4 Democratic Primary.
During my first two terms serving in the Texas Legislature, I’ve focused on the issues that matter to folks in our district and we’ve gotten some good things done – ensuring that tenants do not fall victim to unscrupulous landlords, that the lives of service members who made the ultimate sacrifice are not forgotten and that additional protections are in place to ensure that children do not fall victim to sexual predators, just to name a few.
My priorities will continue to reflect the needs of the people I represent – creating jobs in our community and state, strengthening public schools and increasing access to affordable health care for all Texans. And I will continue to stand up against misguided, partisan efforts to roll back voting rights and women’s rights.
Thank you for your continued friendship and your support.
