GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – Today, a Federal Court blocked Texas from using the new congressional map passed this year by Governor Greg Abbott and Republicans in the Texas Legislature on President Trump’s command. The Court ruled that the 2026 midterm elections must proceed under the map the Legislature enacted in 2021.
Representative Chris Turner, a member of the House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting, made the following statement:
“From the moment they were introduced, I’ve maintained that these maps were racially discriminatory and unconstitutional. That’s why we fought so hard. That’s why we spent hours questioning their legality in committee hearings and on the House Floor, that’s why we left the state and broke quorum, and faced lawsuits, threats and retributions. I am glad that the courts agreed. This is a victory for Texas, our country and our democracy.”
